In the last 20 years, the Virginia’s Finest Review Committee in Virginia has sought out the products and goods of Virginians to award their prestigious trademark. We are now one of only 1,000 producers from across the state of Virginia who now display the trademark proudly. All of Virginia’s Finest products have been deemed to be the best of the best.
In May of 2010, Alice’s Yummy Yeast Roll Mixes earned the Virginia’s Finest Trademark.
Using our roll mixes in our kitchen, we also prepare and bake a variety of breads to sell. Our breads can be found at local co-ops, specialty shops, and farmers markets.
“I recently purchased a packaged of your 100% Whole Wheat Yeast Roll Mix and it was extremely easy to prepare. Now my husband thinks I can make homemade yeast rolls. Thanks Alice!!…The directions were right on and simple to follow.” Kathy, Mineral, VA
On any given day, you can smell and savor our bread and roll varieties, such as Parmesan Garlic, Cheddar Cheese, Garden Herb, Cinnamon rolls, hot bread entrees, and so much more.
We use our Professional Kitchen Aid mixers, but you can certainly use a hand mixer that has a dough hook, a bread machine, or you can simply hand-knead.
The lost art of hand-kneading is actually quite simple to do. Using the palms of your hands and fingers, push down on the dough, stretch it with the palm of your hands, then fold the dough over and turn. Repeat for about ten minutes. I call it “playing in the dough.” Never use extra flour, as this can alter the texture of your bread or rolls with our mixes. Just dabbing a little canola or olive oil on your hands and your counter will keep your dough from sticking to both.
If you’re using a bread machine: follow the instructions for our roll mixes, and begin the process of mixing and kneading in your bread machine. After the kneading process is complete,
remove the dough and place it in a bowl that is three times the size of your dough (for maximum rising). After the dough has risen, shape it into whatever you want to bake, whether it be rolls or loaf bread.
Alice’s Pantry Treasures also offers another delicious product. Due to an abundance of habanero peppers in our garden one year, I found myself experimenting with them while creating some type of jelly or preserves. I thought, “Let’s keep the heat, but add some sweetness to the pepper.” My habanero preserves, made of habaneros, sweet carrots, and red bell peppers, are now very popular in our region and beyond.
What’s a kitchen without a cookbook?
Alice’s Pantry Treasures cookbook has been revised and is now available. Written and illustrated by hand back in 1982, it contains kitchen hints and old family recipes, some of which have been passed down from generation to generation, and have all been kitchen-tested by me. A truly unique cookbook for all!
